No, actually, they don’t really leap. At least not onto visitors! But if you love snakes and other scaled critters, you’ll want to visit Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland, in Allenwood PA!
The reptile zoo boasts an extensive collection of snakes, lizards, turtles, and crocodilians showcased in naturalistic habitats. You can also interact with some feathered friends, including a cranky emu (well, you don’t really WANT to interact with the emu). If that’s not enough, then you can also enjoy animatronic dinos. I particularly enjoyed the rather roomy Komodo dragon habitat. I mean, they don’t really move much, but they’re pretty cool creatures.
Who is Clyde Peeling? Clyde Peeling is a renowned herpetologist and conservationist known for his work in the field of reptiles. Peeling’s passion for reptiles began at a young age. That passion led him to pursue a career dedicated to studying and raising awareness about these fascinating creatures.
If you enjoy zoos, then you’ll enjoy the Pittsburgh Zoo and the Smithsonian National Zoo!
What to Expect at Reptiland
The 6,500-square-foot Reptile and Amphibian Gallery features more than 40 species of snakes in naturalistic habitats. During the summer, tortoises and aquatic turtles roam outdoors in the gardens, adding to the immersive experience.
This is a great place to take the littles. But adults who enjoy reptiles will also enjoy seeing all the animals. The well designed habitats offer the unique opportunity to observe these intriguing creatures up close. There were quite a few staff around, and they willingly answered questions about the biology, behavior, and ecological significance. In addition, the zoo offers a variety of educational programs, interactive exhibits, and live animal presentations that help foster awareness and appreciation for reptiles while promoting conservation efforts.
In addition to reptiles, Reptiland includes non-reptile species in its exhibits, such as the avian walk-through exhibit, ‘Parakeet Landing’. Visitors can hand-feed budgies after purchasing a seed stick, creating memorable interactions with these feathered friends.
Reptiland offers an unforgettable experience for reptile enthusiasts and families alike. From impressive dinosaur animatronics to up-close encounters with Komodo dragons, the zoo provides a fascinating glimpse into the world of reptiles.
